Repair work begins on broken embankment in Feni
The Water Development Board (PAUBO) has started work to repair the broken part of the embankment of the Muhuri River in Feni. The repair work has started on the 20-meter broken part in Banikpara village area of Sadar Union of Fulgazi Upazila since Friday afternoon.

PAUBO-Feni Sub-Divisional Engineer Md. Abul Kashem said that due to the cessation of heavy rains and the decrease in the water level in the river, geo bags and sand bags have been laid to repair the 20-meter eroded part of the Muhuri River. Dredging arrangements are also being made for the affected part. If there is no rain, the repair work of the eroded part will be completed by Saturday evening. He also said that the repair work of the eroded part of the embankment of the neighboring Silonia River is being waited for the river water to recede. It will take a few days to start the repair work of the eroded embankment in the Gosaipur section.

The Water Development Board (PAUBO) has started work on repairing the broken part of the embankment of the Muhuri River in Feni. Repair work has started on the 20-meter broken section in Banikpara village area of Sadar Union of Fulgazi Upazila since Friday afternoon.
Paubo-Feni Sub-Divisional Engineer Md. Abul Kashem said that due to the cessation of heavy rains and the reduction of water in the river, geo bags and sand bags have been placed to repair the 20-meter eroded section of the Muhuri River. Dredging arrangements are also being made in the affected area. If there is no rain, the repair work of the eroded section will be completed by Saturday evening. He also said that the repair of the section of the Silonia River dam that has broken nearby is being waited for the river water to decrease. It will take a few days to start the repair work of the eroded embankment in the Gosaipur section.
Last Thursday night, due to continuous rain and hilly terrain, a place on the flood control embankment of the Muhuri River adjacent to the house of Sahadeb Baidya in Banikpara village of Sadar Union of Fulgazi Upazila and the Gosaipur area of the Silonia River broke. Nine villages in the upazila were flooded. The villages are Uttar Baraiya, Dakshin Baraiya, Bijoypur, Banikpara, Basantapur, Jagatpur, Gosaipur, Kariya, and Nilakshi.
Maran Chandra, a resident of Uttar Baraiya village in Fulgazi, said that the embankment of the Muhuri River adjacent to his house broke and water entered his house last Thursday night. Various things including household goods were destroyed in this. The water in the house has started to recede since last night. If the embankment is not permanently repaired, water may enter the house again through the broken part.
Local resident Kabir Ahmed said that every year during the rainy season, the earthen embankments of the Muhuri, Kahua, and Silonia rivers break at various places due to heavy rains and landslides. The residents of the riverbanks are being affected by this. The Paubo only ends their duties by irresponsibly repairing them. The people of this region want a permanent solution to the embankments of the three rivers.
